#wordsaday is a monthly creative writing challenge where I provide a list of prompts from which you can take inspiration.
Here’s the #wordsadayaugust list!
In the first challenge, #aprilwordsaday, I wrote a mixture of pieces; flash fiction, poetry and loglines, and during #maywordsaday and #wordsadayjune I concentrated solely on loglines. It’s been a fantastic exercise and a few of them have sparked further ideas!
If you’d like to take a look at all my challenge entries, including my #photoaday entries, you can view them on Sofluid’s sister blog, Sofluidyourbeauty.
How to take part:
#wordsaday is a challenge for writers of all disciplines with the aim of flexing those creative muscles and providing inspiration.
The rules are simple:
Each day, take the prompt and allow your thoughts to “brainstorm” all associations and memories you have connected with it, or even new ideas or thoughts that arise from it. Use these thoughts to get creative with written words!
You may have a preferred discipline such as screenwriting, prose writing or poetry. You can stick to a discipline each day or try a variety. You could write:
- A logline for a script (or even a story or a novel)
- A short poem; any style, perhaps try Haikus?
- A short story; perhaps try a six word story, or a six sentence story?
- A small stone; explore the inspired memories and thoughts and observe their effect on you… Read more about Small Stones on Fiona Robyn’s Writing Your Way Home website.
Write privately or share your work with myself and other participants by using the hashtag #wordsaday on twitter. Post your entries on your blog or here in the comments of this post, if you like!
Do let me know if you’re taking part!
