Some people are really wary about screenwriting events, and that’s understandable; it takes time and money to attend courses and festivals, and you want to make sure that you are getting value for that money.
So what exactly are the benefits of attending a screenwriting festival? Won’t it just be a load of talks about stuff you already know? This is a common misconception. The festival offers far, far more than this, including access to over 850 people who could help your career grow.
This isn’t just people in the know giving a few talks – it’s a huge range of professionals on all levels with extremely diverse skills.
It’s not *all* about “the rules of screenwriting”. You’ll learn about every facet of the industry, and more. In 2010, I was incredibly enthused by the knowledge I gained about subjects such as copy writing and the opportunities available for screenwriters in that world, and the ins and outs of DVD distribution. Not something you’d initially expect from a “screenwriting” festival.
These are people who won’t just give fascinating talks and then leave; they’re people who will take time to answer your questions, chat with you in depth and perhaps even privately and maybe even – though don’t pester for this – swap contact details with you. Make sure you have business cards at the ready!
These are people who will provide workshops and advice sessions to help your personal writing develop (check out the labs and script surgeries!)
These are agents and producers who will listen to your pitches and request your work (check out the pitching opportunities!)
ACCESS TO OVER 150 PROFESSIONALS
Speakers already confirmed for LSWF include Basic Instinct’s JOE ESZTERHAS, GRAHAM LINEHAN (IT Crowd), DAVID HARE (The Hours), LUKE RYAN, BEN STEPHENSON, KATE HARWOOD, TONY JORDAN, JOHN YORKE, JIM SHERIDAN, Writer and Creator of The Fall, ALLAN CUBITT, and OMG I CAN’T EVEN TYPE THEM ALL OUT THERE ARE SO MANY GREAT NAMES!!! What’s more, Broadchurch creator and writer CHRIS CHIBNALL will be joined by his producers, directors and actors for the biggest Broadchurch session in Broadchurch history!
Not only can you pitch to designated pros, there are loads of delegates who are writers, actors, producers and directors with whom you can network. You never know who you’ll end up sitting next to, or how they might be able to help you…
These are people who you can share stories with, swap work with, collaborate with. Become friends with. Make films with.
These are ALL people you can interact with on the delegate social network. Yes, that’s right, delegates and professionals alike are all invited to join the private social network where you can chat, share your blogs and videos, and watch recorded sessions from not only the latest festival but all the previous ones too. That’s like, getting the other festivals’ goodies for FREE.
